Adult Children of Alcoholics
You might already know that you grew up in an alcoholic home. Some people don’t realize this until they are adults and look back on it. There is a certain kind of chaos when one or both of the adults in your house is struggling with alcohol abuse.
There are also some typical ways that children learn how to cope with these circumstances that might be harming you now. Some people carry a fear of authority figures or angry people, struggle with low self-esteem or high self-judgment, become preoccupied with a sense of responsibility for others, feel more comfortable with chaos than calm, or perhaps lose access to their own emotional experience. These are all things that therapy can help you sort through.
