Family Estrangement
Estrangement from a family member is often an incredibly painful experience. You might have grown up dealing with estrangement from a parent or other close family member. This kind of experience can be incredibly confusing for a child. There can be a lifetime of longing and hurt connected with the missing person. Holidays, birthdays, school events, and significant milestones might all be moments where a family member’s absence is felt.
It can be even harder to understand or receive support when this family member is alive and seemingly is choosing not to be involved. Possibly, the estrangement has occurred in your adult life. Maybe you have felt the need to distance from a toxic family member, or maybe someone else made a choice to sever a relationship with you.
Even when you believe in your heart that distance is better than closeness, these situations can be incredibly difficult and cause ongoing stress. You might be grieving the loss of this person, or grieving the loss of a relationship you always wanted with this person but were never able to have. Often this pain is one people keep quiet because others don’t seem to understand.
I can offer a place to make sense out of these complicated emotions and help you heal.
