Intellectual Giftedness
Being smart can be a socially isolating, depressing and existentially confusing experience. It’s a trait that is supposed to be enviable but often feels like a liability. Intellectual giftedness often comes with an extremely active mind that is easily prone to anxiety and has difficulty resting. It is also highly correlated with having an especially sensitive nervous system.
You might find that you get overstimulated easily, find crowds or loud noises overwhelming, or have especially high empathy. Your school experiences might have been disappointing in a number of ways. Possibly it has been hard to find people you can really connect with. Oftentimes, as children, intellectual giftedness is pathologized and confused with a number of different cognitive and mental disorders. Intellectually gifted individuals often struggle with issues of perfectionism, overthinking, anxiety, depression, and emotional intensity.
It might be the right time for you to make sense out of some of these issues, and I believe I can help you do that.
