Heightened Sensitivity & Empathy

Research indicates that 15-20% of the population have a personality trait known as Sensory Processing Sensitivity. People with this trait tend to be easily overstimulated by various aspects of their environment (bright lights, background noise, strong smells, coarse fabric). They might be especially impacted by violence on TV. Sometimes they are slow to warm up to new people or a new situation because they take a little more time to process all of the new information. They often have a complex cognitive process. They might be more attuned to other people’s emotional states. Most importantly, they offer a unique and valuable perspective on the world that is often unappreciated, misunderstood, and under-nurtured.

Therapy with me can help you understand how your sensitivity impacts you, help you embrace these lovely aspects of yourself, and help you learn to care for yourself in ways that honor you.
